PhD in Theology

The PhD in Theology programme provides a pathway of progression into advanced evangelical biblical and theological studies. The goal of the programme is to develop and enhance competencies in theological scholarship, research, consultancy, and value-based leadership in the church and society. The duration of the programme is 3 academic years of blended learning with a one-week annual residency. In order to graduate candidates are required to pass in 9 taught courses, publish two refereed journal articles and defend a dissertation in their area of specialization.

Admission requirements

In order to qualify for admission into the PhD programme, a candidate must satisfy the following minimum academic qualifications:

  1. Be a holder of a relevant Masters degree from a chartered University or an accredited Institution of Higher Learning. These include Master of Arts in Biblical Theology, Master of Divinity, Master of Theology, Master of Arts in Religious Studies, Master of Arts in Theological Studies, Masters in Mission Studies or any other relevant qualification.
  2. Have two reference letters, from the previous graduate School, and pastoral letter from a religious leader.
  3. Candidates from non-English speaking countries shall demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English.
  4. Show promise future usefulness to church and society.
  5. Demonstrate ability to handle doctoral work in English.
