Introduction
The Master of Arts in Community Development and Social Protection program is designed to empower and equip students to serve as transformational social change agents who can translate the national and global development agenda into reality in the African context. This program recognizes the need that communities and individuals in society need to be equipped with capacities to protect themselves against shocks and how to deal with risks. This program will inculcate much-needed skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating development programs as a means to achieving sustainable development. The program will further offer skills in advocacy, lobbying, and policy development to enhance social justice. Graduates of the program will be competently equipped to serve effectively and professionally as program/project managers in Government ministries, private sectors, and civil societies.

Core objectives
At the end of the program, the student should be able to:

  • Integrate community development and social protection concepts, theories, and principles in solving community development problems
  • Identify community problems, design, implement, monitor, and evaluate development programs
  • Develop and Influence policies in the area of community development and social protection
  • Analyze and develop social protection systems

Entry Requirement
For admission into the program, a candidate must be a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 2.70 or Second Class Upper Division, or its equivalent.
