John M. Kihoro is a Professor of Applied Statistics at the Co-operative University of Kenya and the current Dean of the School of Computing and Mathematics.  Before becoming a member of PAC University’s Council, Prof. Kihoro was a member of its Academic Committee. Previously, he served as the founding Director of the Directorate of Computing and e-Learning (2014-2019) which he nurtured to give birth to the Institute of Open, Distance and e-Learning and School of Computing & Mathematics. Before joining the Co-operative University of Kenya, Prof. Kihoro worked at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) where he was instrumental in the establishment of the current School of Open, Distance and e-Learning. Here, he served as the Manager of JKUAT’s School of e-Learning and later as the Deputy Director.

Prof. Kihoro has a great passion for Technology-driven solutions to education delivery and management and for over 15 years, he has been an e-learning champion and practitioner.  He is passionate and widely consulted on ICT-related jobs. This passion has previously won him national and international recognition, including Kenya Education Network (KENET) innovation Champion of the year (2012), Distinguished Scholar Award (DSA)-2013 ICTAK Awards for Kenya @50, Visiting lecturer at the University of South Africa (UNISA)-College of Science, Engineering and Technology (2013), and Consultant Trainer on Learning Management Systems and implementation of eLearning (EDULINK eLEFANS project, KEMU, SEKU, CUE).

He holds a BSc in Education and a Master of Science degree from Kenyatta University and a PhD in Statistics from JKUAT.  He has over 20 years of teaching experience at the University level. 

Prof. Kihoro is an active member of CITAM Thika town where he serves in the Social Action committee. He is married to Hilda Wanjiku and they are blessed with three children.
