Prof. Dionysious Kiambi

Prof. Dionysious Kihika Kiambi is an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences and is the current Vice Chancellor of Pan Africa Christian (PAC) University. He holds a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Birmingham, UK, specializing in molecular genetics and eco-geography. He also holds an MSc in Conservation and Utilization of Plant Genetic Resources from the same University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Gene Bank Technology from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Denmark, and the Nordic Gene Bank, Sweden. He also holds a BSc Degree in Botany and Zoology from the University of Nairobi.

Prof. Kiambi previously served as the Director of Research and Dean of Graduate School at PAC University. He also worked as a Senior Lecturer at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Prior to that, he served as the Director of the African Biodiversity Conservation and Innovations Centre (ABCIC) and worked as a Senior Scientist at the International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics.

He has also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at McGill University, Canada, and before then, he worked for the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute for 12 years as a Scientist in Genetic Diversity.

Prof. Kiambi has accrued 34 years of experience in agricultural research and development in sub-Saharan Africa. Throughout his career, he has made a number of key achievements including coordination of national, regional, and international programs and initiatives as well as resource mobilization.

Prof. Kiambi is a highly accomplished scholar with over 40 scholarly publications, including papers in refereed journals, books, book chapters, as well as papers in national, regional, and international conferences. So far, he has supervised 4 PhDs and 22 Masters Students.

He is a founder member of the Open Forum Agricultural Biotechnology in Africa (OFAB) Programming Committee and serves as the Alternate Chair of the OFAB-Kenya Chapter. He is also a founder member of the PAC University Governing Council, where he served as the Chair of the Academic Committee and later as the Chair of the Governing Council.

Prof. Kiambi has consulted for several regional and international organizations including FAO, UNDP, GEF, IUCN, ASARECA, Bioversity International, and the Global Crop Diversity Trust among others. He has served as an External Examiner of postgraduate theses from Nairobi University, Kenyatta University, and Makerere University. He also serves as a reviewer of several journals including the African Journal of Biotechnology, Plant Genetic Resources, and the African Journal of Agricultural Research among others.

Prof. Kiambi has been actively involved in Church and outreach activities. He has served as a Deacon at Christ is the Answer Ministry (CITAM), HOD of the Visitation Ministry, Chair of the Professionals Fellowship, and Chair of the Men’s Fellowship, among others. He is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of Evangel Publishing House and the Secretary of the Board of Share International.

He is married to Charity, and they are blessed with one child and two grandchildren.
