Chair of Council

Prof. Jayne Mutiga is the current Chairperson of University Governing Council, a distinguished academic at the University of Nairobi, where she teaches Linguistics and Language Practice and serves as the Director of the Centre for Translation and Interpretation, a research institute of the University of Nairobi. Her research interests are in Linguistics, and Translation and Interpreting, and she supervises research, and dissertation processes. 

She holds a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Nairobi, Kenya/Bayreuth University in Germany, a Master of Arts in Linguistics and, Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and African Languages, from the University of Nairobi. She also holds a postgraduate certificate in Communication Skills and Language Practice, from the Lancaster University, United Kingdom.

She has published extensively in her area of expertise and has successfully supervised over sixty Master’s and Doctorate dissertations.

Throughout her education, Jayne actively engaged in Christian fellowship, serving as the Chairperson of her high school’s Christian Union and later as a member of the Executive Committee of the Main Campus Christian Union at the University of Nairobi. Her commitment to faith has remained steadfast, extending into her local church involvement and academic circles.

Currently, Prof. Mutiga holds key leadership roles in Christian organizations, including Chairperson of the University Council at Pan-African Christian (PAC) University, Deputy President of the Society of Christian Scholars in Africa, and Board Member of the Wycliffe Global Alliance. Her dedication to faith-based service is further demonstrated through her past roles, such as Elder at Christ is the Answer Ministries (CITAM) Valley Road, Board Member at Bible Translation & Literacy (BTL), Vice Chair of the University Council at Scott Christian University, and Vice Chair of the National Governing Council for the Fellowship of Christian Unions (FOCUS).

Prof. Jayne is passionate about developing leaders and building strong professionalism in organizations. Her motivation to serve stems out of her drive to contribute her knowledge, skills and experience in the shaping of sound policies and governance principles in relevant organizations. Her life mission is to see increased access and understanding of godly values and practice in the spheres of her influence.

Prof. Jayne is a member of several professional organizations locally and internationally.

She is married to Eng. David Mutiga, and together they have two adult children, a daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren. They worship at Christ is the Answer Ministries (CITAM) Valley Road, where they serve in the Family Care Ministry. Her life mission centers on promoting sound leadership, professionalism, and the spread of Christian values in both academic and organizational spheres, reflecting her dedication to faith, family, and service.
